Split Stack Development Model

I have been working on this ruby on rails application i wanted to separate my FRONT-END from BACK-END.This way both front-end and back-end should not be dependent on each other.Front-end should be more like a component based and independent. Any good detailed suggestion would really be helpful. Thanks in advance
